7 Ways to Better Headlines
Do you know what you want from your Website?

By reading this sentence, you have proven the point I'm about to make. Numbers in the headline get people's attention!

The method behind this type of headline is straight forward.

First, pick a goal (increasing sales, saving money, saving time, improving health, etc). Then tell the reader how to accomplish this goal in X number of steps.

Here are 7 things you can do to maximize your success:

1. Write numbers as numbers
Numbers catch the eye better in numerical form (7), as opposed to written form (seven).

2. Use odd numbers
Statistics show that odd numbers outperform even numbers. Odd numbers appear more scientific and legitimate.

3. Write clearly
Keep your headline simple. The reader should understand your message (and the benefits behind it) right from the start. If they don't understand it first go – they won't give it a second chance.

4. Use strong action words
Strong words promote strong emotions. Boring words get boring results Don't tell readers how to "increase the safety of your home." Tell them how to "safeguard your possessions and protect your home."

5. Crank up the benefits
Increase the motivating power of your numbered headline by increasing the reward, eg For example, instead of "7 Ways to Increase Profit," you might say "7 Ways to Maximise Profit." Only one word has changed, but now the promise of value is much greater. "Increase" is vague. "Maximise" is absolute.

6. Deliver on your promise
If you offer"25 Ways to Increase Your Website Profit," you must deliver 25 ways to increase the reader's website profit. Offer a summary of the ways and then point to a full report that offers the rest. Be sure there's a product behind the promise.

7. No Trickery
Stay away from "bait and switch" headlines that don't deliver on the promise. Trickery and deceit will get you nowhere.
